Last time on So You Think You Can Dance, the final six dancers performed two routines with new partners, and each danced solos. Lacey was the first to find out that she had made it to the finals, followed by Danny, neither a surprise. Because the schedule was messed up last week, the results show was taped several days before it aired. Because of that, the studio audience was kicked out before the last results were announced.
Sabra made it to the finals, and Lauren was sent home. For the guys, Pasha went home and Neil advanced to the finals. My prediction is either Danny or Lacey to win, but maybe that will change after tonight’s show.
Tonight’s final performance episode starts with a nod to the judges. Joining Nigel and Mary is guest judge, choreographer Dan Karaty. Nigel announces that the show has been picked up for next year. Dan was at the New York auditions, and Cat reminds us that three of the final four came from New York.
Cat is wearing a slinky sequined little dress tonight. Unfortunately, her stylist didn’t meet with the stagehands, and her dress blends right into the background. Mary’s looking plump and must be trying to reuse a bridesmaids dress, in a mint green evening gown and a wide diamond necklace. Nigel is wearing a boring gray suit as always, but has tried to spiff things up a little with a red tie and pocket square. Dan looks quite dapper in a black jacket, gray shirt and wide silver tie. Maybe dapper is the wrong word for it, now that I think about it, he looks like a college guy who borrowed his dad’s clothes for a party.
Next, we take a look back on different dances by the top four from all season, including the auditions. Then a commercial, and it’s finally time for some dancing! The first dance will be a Tyce Diorio Broadway routine for all four of them. Tyce tells us it will be a “slick, sophisticated routine.” Then he weighs in on the finalists. He says that Danny brings the most technical expertise, Neil is the most evolved, Lacey is consistent and Sabra is a master at everything.
The Broadway routine is to “Mein Herr” sung by Liza Manelli from the ‘Cabaret’ soundtrack. Neil is wearing black pants, a black and white striped t-shirt, and red suspenders. Danny is wearing the same pants, white suspenders and a red tank top shirt. Lacey is wearing fishnet thigh-highs, long black gloves, a black lacey bustier with red trim, and sparkly black short shorts. Sabra is in white stockings, red gloves, a white bustier and black short shorts. Sabra looks cute and Lacey looks like a stripper, it’s amazing how different the look is when you exchange the black and red top for a white one.
The dance itself uses chairs as props, and is choreographed like it cold have come right off of the Broadway stage. There are lots of arm movements and exaggerated facial expressions, and running around the stage.
Nigel says that it was a great routine, and proves that any one of them could win it. He tells Lacey that she could have used her partner a little more. Next Nigel compliments Danny, says he’s brilliant, and is really showing his performance talents now. He tells Sabra that she’s a wonderful personality and performer, and to keep doing what she’s doing. Finally, he tells Neil that he’s peaking at the right time and is doing well. He tells the group that since the competition is for America’s favorite dancer and not the best technical dancer, any one of them could win.
Mary says that all four were tremendous, and it’s going to depend on some of the individual numbers. Dan says it’s surprising how well they dance together since they’re competing against each other, and wishes them good luck.
