We’re halfway there, and the next routine is Sabra and Lacey dancing a Wade Robson piece. Wade tells us it’s about a mother fox and her baby fox. Lacey is the mother and Sabra is the baby. The dance is to “Koyal” by Nitin Sawhney.
Lacey and Sabra are dressed all in loose dark silk pants and shirts, and they’ve both got white scarves or something on the back of their pants to look like a tail. The main prop is a red scarf, which they play with and carry around in their mouths. It’s actually a really cool dance, full of original moves. There’s feeding, sleeping, and teaching to walk. The fox moves are mixed with contemporary dance moves, so that it doesn’t just look like a weird story routine.
Nigel says “this is extraordinary, I didn’t get that at all, it’s hard to critique because you didn’t do anything but stay in character” (which I disagree with). He says that he’s not sure that this was the right time to experiment with choreography. Mary says that it didn’t showcase their talents, and agrees that it’s a hard dance to critique and judge. Dan says that there will be people who love the dance and people who don’t. He says that their attention to detail was good, and they did a great job.
