Next up is Lacey and Danny, dancing the Viennese Waltz with Jean-Marc Genereux. It’s to “Keep Holding On” by Avril Lavigne. Lacey is in a long gray sheer dress with a lavender lining, and Danny is in a black suit. They look the part, like something out of a movie.
I like the choreography because it’s faster than I usually picture a waltz, which also makes it more interesting to me. I don’t know anything about rise and fall or frame. What I do know is when I can’t stop watching a dance as opposed to fighting to stay interested. This dance is fun to watch, and I believe that they’re dancing because they choose to, rather than have to. There are some lovely turns and lifts. At one point, one of Lacey’s earrings flies off as she’s spinning around, but she keeps right on dancing.
Nigel says “that was so good, it was like you were dancing on ice.” The last time Lacey danced a waltz, Nigel pointed out that she lets her hand hang down rather than pointed out straight. He asks her how much she was thinking about her hand. She says that after he had said that, she watched herself and “like seriously vomited and thought it was seriously disgusting.” She says that she put a popsicle stick in her glove one day to practice. Nigel tells Danny that he’s a great partner now and his rise and fall is fantastic. I knew that would get brought up eventually!
Mary says that this dance isn’t the easiest one, and they did it well and made it look effortless. She gives them a standing ovation and a scream. Dan tells Danny that everyone expected him to be in the final four. He tells Lacey that it’s amazing that she can be so beautiful and elegant, and fun and crazy too.
