In the annual Harris Poll, which surveys to find Americas favorite television personality, Oprah Winfrey regained her spot as number one in 2009 after slipping to fourth the year before. Harris said that Winfrey more than likely reclaimed the top spot because of her announcement that she would be ending her talk show in 2011.

Winfrey was rated the best by woman over 33 years old. Oprah is no stranger to the #1 spot; she previously was on top in 1998, 2000, and from 2002-2006. Are you surprised to see her at the top again? Let me know your thoughts with a comment and stay tuned for more news.
It’s no surprise that a recent Harris Poll found Oprah Winfrey the top TV personality of 2009. However, what is surprising is that the top three is rounded out by Glenn Beck and Jay Leno. With some of Beck’s criticism of the Obama administration, you would think such a polarizing figure would be ranked lower. In addition, “The Jay Leno Show” received ratings so low that NBC sent Conan O’Brien to the curb.
If there’s one more sign that the Harris Poll had some terrible luck in 2009, it’s that “Two and a Half Men” star Charlie Sheen also appears at #7. Granted, this poll was conducted before the incident with Brooke Mueller on Christmas Day, but it’s not exactly a welcome sign for many to see. David Letterman is also on the list at #9, and the poll did account for his affairs with past “Late Show” staffers.
Ellen DeGeneres tied for fourth place with Hugh Laurie in the poll, and was the only other female who ranked in the top ten. Not only does DeGeneres have her own talk show, but she will become a new judge on American Idol in February.
Glenn Beck, radio and television talk show host, ranked just under Winfrey, in the second spot. This is Beck’s first time being ranked in the Harris Poll. He ranked the best with Republicans and people over the age of 64.
The Harris Poll has been done annually since 1993.
