•Emmys sink. Fox’s 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday averaged 13 million viewers, the second-worst ever behind 1990’s 12.3 million.
•Rushing leaders. NBC’s Sunday Night Football was tops for the week with 15.3 million. ESPN’s season premiere of Monday Night Football (11.1 million) led on cable and was up from 10.5 million last year; a late game scored 8.5 million.
CHARTS: Top shows of the week
•Bush speech. President Bush’s speech on the Iraq war drew 28.8 million viewers across nine networks Thursday. That’s down by a third from his last such speech in January.
•Loser wins. The fourth-season premiere of NBC’s The Biggest Loser weighed in with 7.8 million viewers, up slightly from last fall and matching Season 2’s start.
•Bad twang. The premiere of Fox’s docusoap Nashville tanked Friday with a fourth-place 2.7 million viewers, tumbling from its low Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? lead-in (5 million).
•Sunnier Sunny. The third-season opener of FX comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia averaged a series-high 2.3 million viewers Thursday, up from the 1.7 million for last season’s start.
•Cable highs, lows. VH1’s Rock of Love hit a series-high 3.5 million viewers Sunday; HGTV’s Design Star 2 was big with 3.1 million; and Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken opened a new season with 2.3 million, an original-series record. Week 2 of HBO’s Tell Me You Love Me dipped to 793,000 from last week’s 910,000.
•Summer finales. Rounding out its summer run, TNT’s The Closer drew a series-high 9.2 million viewers Monday. Other finishes: FX’s Rescue Me (2.7 million Wednesday); TBS’ My Boys (1.3 million Monday); and four USA series: Monk (5 million) and Psych (4.2 million) Friday and The 4400 (2 million) and The Dead Zone (1.9 million) Sunday.
•Summer to forget. ABC closed out reality bombs Fat March (4.8 million Monday), i-Caught (a series-low 3.6 million Tuesday) and NASCAR in Primetime (a series-low 2.7 million Wednesday).
