Is history repeating itself? Just like in the 1986 elections when the two political families of Marcos and Aquino duke it out for the presidency, rumor has it that in 2010, the next generations of the Marcoses and Aquinos will be fighting for the highest post in the land. While Noynoy Aquino is seriously contemplating a possible run for the presidency, former First Lady Imelda Marcos is prodding his son, Ilocos Norte Representative Bongbong Marcos to also run.
But Bongbong’s downplaying the Marcos matriarch’s wishes, saying that: “Like any loving mother, my mother wants the most for her children. Since I’m in politics, the highest attainable office is President, so she hopes for that.” However, he said that he’s considering a run for the Senate under Manuel Villar’s line-up, adding that: “I am watching development unfold to see how the political terrain is shaping up. I will decide soon.”
