GMA Network profit jumps 20% to P2.28B in 11 months

GMA Network Broadcast company posted a net income of P2.28 billion  in the first 11 months of 2007, 20 percent higher than its earnings in the same period in 2006, it said in a statement.

In November 2007 alone, revenues again breached the P1-bilion mark while net income rose six percent to P220 million. Year-to-date revenues  amounted to 10.83 billion, up eight percent from a year earlier.

In its report, GMA said it continued to lead in mega Manila and total urban Luzon ratings, which has kept the momentum on the “Kapuso” channel’s side in the race for the nationwide ratings lead.

In total urban  Luzon, which comprises 76.2 percent of the total urban TV household population in the country, GMA noted that it has led competition in both ratings and audience share since September. This, it explained, is due to the network’s continued strength in mega Manila and its strong performance in North and Central Luzon where GMA led rival ABS-CBN by 3.5 percent in November.

For combined metro cities, which include  mega Manila, Metro Cebu, Iloilo City, and Davao City, GMA revealed that it led its competitor  by 1.5 percent in ratings. In terms of people audience shares, GMA said it was ahead of its rival by seven percent.

Marimar was the top program nationwide in November, with Kamandag and Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan also in the top 10. For urban Luzon, 16 out of the top 30 programs were also from GMA with Marimar, Kamandag and Zaido occupying the top three spots.

In Mega Manila, GMA reported that it firmly held the top post in November with 19 out of the 30 top programs coming from it, the top 10 programs of which are all from the Network. 

GMA Pinoy TV, the international channel of GMA Network, continued to expand its reach. To date, it is already seen in a number of territories in the US including the District of Columbia, Alaska and Hawaii. It is likewise available in the Middle East, Japan, Guam, Saipan, Papua New Guinea and Diego Garcia.

Adding to the growing list are California, Texas (through AT&T U-verse) and Las Vegas (via Cox), Canada (via Bell Express Vu), San Diego (through Chula Vista), and Japan (via WINS-SkyPerfect) as GMA Pinoy TV was recently made available to these areas.

GMA Pinoy TV likewise spread its reach in Singapore via Singtel. Plans to pursue its expansion in Canada will also continue early this month through cable carrier IP Qube.

The company also continues its expansion in the regions in its drive to gain supremacy in other parts of the country, including the Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao.

GMA Network likewise reported that it is building two state-of-the-art studios within its compound in Quezon City, which will house the most modern studio equipment and facilities in the country.
